Robert Downey Jr. Shares Awesome Footage Of Infinity War Being Filmed
There are few movies that are quite as massive as Avengers: Infinity War. The film was a huge production effort involving hundreds of crew members, over 30 characters, and likely some very tired special effects technicians. Couple that with the fact that this was filmed back-to-back with Avengers 4 for an entire year, and you've got a production for the ages. Filming Infinity War was probably a challenge for all involved and movie fans are no doubt curious about how such a project was tackled. Check out this cool behind-the-scenes look at how Infinity War was filmed, courtesy of Robert Downey Jr.
Filming any movie is hard, but one with as many moving parts as Avengers: Infinity War takes a special kind of effort. Though there will likely be plenty of behind-the-scenes looks on the eventual Blu-ray release (coming sooner than you think), we've got an early peek at what it was like to be on set during filming. Robert Downey Jr. has shared a video to his Instagram of the filming of an early scene in Avenger: Infinity War. The scene involves Downey's Tony Stark, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and Wong (Benedict Wong) standing together on a battle-worn New York City street. Stark assumes a battle pose and exchanges some words with Banner before the Russo Brothers call for a reset.
Obviously, Tony Stark is meant to be in his Iron Man armor at this point, so the video offers a look at what filming is like without all the special effects that are added afterward. Given how grand and epic the movie is, the actual filming of it is surprisingly ordinary. They reposition and adjust camera moves, give notes to actors, and do multiple takes, just like it's any old movie. It's a very cool look into what filming a movie is actually like, and it seems even the size of the flick doesn't affect the nitty gritty on-set procedures.
It's also a fun look at what everything looks like pre-special effects. The set looks terrific, but a lot more detail is added by the VFX team to make it seem like these actors are actually in New York City (a reminder that this movie filmed in Atlanta). Plus, Iron Man is clearly supposed to be doing something impressive, but the actors are just meant to picture in their heads what they are supposed to be seeing. Infinity War has a LOT of special effects too, so imagine what filming fight scenes or any of the stuff in space must have been like.
You won't have to pretend to be seeing something awesome because the finished Avengers: Infinity War is playing in theaters right now. For everything else arriving this summer, here's our list of must-see summer movies.
