Tim Allen Thinks Toy Story 4 Is Like Avengers: Infinity War
Although they're both members of the Disney family, you'd think that Toy Story 4 and Avengers: Infinity War wouldn't have anything in common. One is the upcoming installment in the long-running, family-friendly Pixar film series about sentient toys, the other was the most action-packed Marvel Cinematic Universe entry yet that ended with Thanos wiping out half of all life in the universe. Yet Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, is boldly claiming that Toy Story 4 will feel similar to Infinity War, as least on an emotional level. In Allen's words:
I gotta resist getting emotional because I don't wanna give it away, but this is an incredibly great story. If you're at all a superhero fan, Infinity War - I'm a big superhero fan - that didn't seem like it was going to work but, it was a lot of vignettes that all made sense. This Toy Story 4, we've only been through it once, there will be several more incantations, but it is so emotional, it's so funny, it's so big the idea what they've come up with. I'm startled. 3 was I thought amazing. This one, I couldn't even get through the last scene, ok? I'd love to be a Washington leaker. I just can't do it. I can't give any more away. They've got great characters, but a couple of scenes towards the end were really hard to get through.
Well that settles it. Now I'm expecting to see Buzz Lightyear try to take down Lotso, only for the strawberry-smelling stuffed bear to tell the space ranger, "You should have gone for the head." In all seriousness, I'm surprised that Tim Allen picked Avengers: Infinity War of all movies to compare with Toy Story 4 during his appearance on The Talk, but evidently the scenes he's recorded so far have out him through the emotional ringer, just like Infinity War did to audiences this past summer. It's hard too imagine anything being more devastating than seeing the toys nearly die in an incinerator in Toy Story 3, but with Toy Story 4 nine months away, hopefully we'll see some footage before the year is over to get an idea of what Allen is talking about. Side note, I wouldn't mind if a Thanos action figure was thrown into Toy Story 4 as an Easter egg, but I won't hold my breath on that one.
Plot-wise, all we've learned so far about Toy Story 4 is that it will involve Woody and Buzz going on a journey to find Bo Peep, who was absent from Toy Story 3 because she'd been given away years earlier. Most of the cast from Toy Story 3 will be reprising their roles, although Don Rickles, who voiced Mr. Potato Head, passed away in 2017 before he could record any lines, and his replacement hasn't been announced yet.
