Peter Dinklage May Have Found His First Post-Game Of Thrones Movie
Next year Game of Thrones will finally wrap. While fans anxiously wait to find out who will be sitting on the Iron Throne after the series ends, star Peter Dinklage is moving into the next phase of his career. Dinklage has gotten a lot from his time as fan-favorite Tyrion Lannister, but it's time to move on. The Emmy-winning actor is moving on to do some movies and has lined up a new project that will see him take on a classic fairy tale: Rumpelstiltskin.
According to Variety, Peter Dinklage is attached to star and produce Rumpelstiltskin for Sony. There's no confirmation that he would be playing the title character, or any other actors were announced for the project. After spending years in Westeros, the upcoming project is a priority for both the actor and studio. Patrick Ness, who has written scripts for Chaos Walking and A Monster Calls, will pen the screenplay. It's unknown if the movie will be set in modern times or its original setting.
Plot details for the project are being kept under wraps, but it will adapt the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. In the story, a miller lies to the king and tells him that his daughter is capable of spinning straw into gold. The king takes her and locks her away in a tower with straw and a spinning wheel and tells her to spin gold by morning or he will cut off her head. When she has given up hope, an imp-like creature appears to her and offers to spin gold in exchange for her ring. The two continue this relationship until the girl has nothing left to offer, and the imp demands her first-born son. She obviously isn't okay with that once the baby is born and the imp challenges her to guess his name in three days time. The miller's daughter is able to come up with the name Rumpelstiltskin and the imp storms away angrily.
The character of Rumpelstiltskin has appeared in various media over the years, but he is perhaps best known from the ABC television series Once Upon a Time. He was a major character played by Robert Carlyle, and frequently walked the line between hero and villain. He was known for arranging magical deals that would eventually play out in his favor.
The project is still in deep development so there is no release date announced just yet.
