Jordan Peele And Keegan-Michael Key Are Reuniting For A New Netflix Movie

For a short but vital window of time, Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele had the comedy world by the balls with their Comedy Central show Key & Peele. Delivering viral clips and fresh memes, their three seasons on the top lead to fruitful, but separate careers for the two comedians. And now, with the help of Netflix (a service which happens to be the current employer of the Key half of the equation), the boys are getting back together for one hell of a movie called Wendel and Wild. Even better? The project is going to be stop-motion animation.

In particular, Wendel and Wild is about two demons who happen to be brothers, and who are veritable tricksters and schemers. While not much else is known about the project's story, there's a rabbit hole of good news that comes with the announcement of its production. Henry Selick has been signed on to write the script along with Jordan Peele and Clay McLeod Chapman. In addition, Deadline says the film will also have a book written in tandem with the film's screenplay, which will also boast alongside Henry Selick's unique voice. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Peele and Selick will produce the new Netflix movie, with Sarah Serata signed on as a co-producer.

Perhaps the coup de grace of the news that heralds the arrival of Netflix's second stop-motion animation project is the fact that Henry Selick is also directing it. For those of you in love with this genre, this is good news as Henry Selick is also the man who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as wrote and directed the stop-motion adaptations of James and the Giant Peach and Coraline for the big screen. So not only are Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele putting their senses of humor into Wendel and Wild, but Selick will put his unique stamp on the film as a writer and director of fine stop-motion animated films.

The deluge of news is enough to make fans of comedy, and fans of Henry Selick's work, happy. Not only is this a reunion for Key & Peele since 2016's Storks was the last time they co-starred together, but it's the first stop-motion film that Henry Selick will have directed since 2009's Coraline. So if Wendel and Wild's production story is starting as anything, it's starting as a group of professionals returning to their respective crafts, collaborating on what could be a fantastically evil comedy.

Of course, the next big question will be whether Wendel and Wild will be a raunchy / risque adult flavored comedy, like Sausage Party, or if it'll be a more accessible film along the lines of The Nightmare Before Christmas. For now, that query has gone unanswered, but as soon as we have any more information here at CinemaBlend, you'll be the first to know! How One Shape Of Water Actor Feels About The Movie's Sex Toys

It's Awards Season, with everything coming down to the Academy Awards in just a few weeks. One of the contenders being watched with excitement is Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, a sweeping and visual romance that is both unexpected and fascinating. While watching a mute woman and an amphibian man fall in love seems like an unlikely choice for Oscar bait, their love story is something else. Doug Jones' Amphibian Man was so romantic that some sex toys have been made in his likeness. The frequent del Toro collaborator was recently asked what he thought about the toys, to which he responded:

With a light chuckle, I can tell you it's not exactly what I'd hoped for. I've actually had several real action figures made of my creature roles in the past --- all done in good taste. After pouring my heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into this romantic, beautiful, magical role, the last thing I want to be remembered for is a silicone appendage that comes in two sizes.

Well, that was honest. Honest and delightful. While Doug Jones seems to have a good sense of humor about the Amphibian themed dildo that's currently on the market, it's not exactly an actor's dream. Considering how serious and somewhat high brow The Shape of Water is, there's no way that Jones or anyone else involved could have expected that specific type of reaction.

Doug Jones' comments to The Wrap at least show that the actor isn't taking it all too seriously. But the juxtaposition between talking about sex toys and gearing up for the Oscars is sure to be a bit jarring. That said, Jones has had plenty of action figures and moldings done of him before. He played the Silver Surfer in the less than stellar Fantastic Four sequel, and also played Abe Sapien in both Hellboy movies. And his dual roles in Pan's Labyrinth as well a his appearance as a Gentleman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer have also spawned plenty of merch.

While Doug Jones might not be thrilled about the new unauthorized merch, sexuality was a major theme of The Shape of Water. When Elisa (Sally Hawkins) and The Creature eventually have sex, it certainly catches the audience by surprise. Anatomically it was puzzling, but eventually moviegoers are able to go along for the ride and witness the two characters' mutual affection. One of them just happens to be a blue water dwelling creature that can't speak. Every relationship has its challenges.

It should be interesting to see where The Shape of Water ends up on Oscars night. It's currently leading the pack with 13 nominations, but it's a strong year with plenty of awesome movies nominated.

What Frozen's Director Thinks Of Theories Elsa Might Be Gay

Disney has always produced fantastic animated features, which become instant classics passed down across generations. The most recent of these hits was 2013's Frozen, which adapted the tale of the The Snow Queen for a new generation. That queen was named Elsa, voiced by Tony Award winner Idina Menzel, who had vast cryokinetic abilities. When Frozen hit theaters, critics applauded how the sisters' relationship was the most important in the movie, rather than a love story. Since then theories have been going around that Elsa might have a same sex romantic partner in the sequel. Frozen writer/director Jennifer Lee recently spoke to this fan reaction, saying:

I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film -- that it's creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people. It means the world to us that we're part of these conversations. Where we're going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we're really conscientious about these things. For me ... Elsa's every day telling me where she needs to go, and she'll continue to tell us. I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa's doing in her life, she's telling me every day. We'll see where we go.

While Jennifer Lee hasn't confirmed or denied Elsa's gay theory, she certainly seems happy that the character is creating dialogue. While Elsa was originally set to be the villain of Frozen, she ended up being rewritten to be a sympathetic character-- one that the LGBT community seems especially close to.

Rumors and theories around Elsa possibly being queer happened shortly after Frozen debuted in theaters. It was unique for the character to not have any love interest-- something that is a mainstay of Disney animated features. Additionally, the lyrics to her showstopping song "Let It Go" were relatable for LBGT fans. The anthem is about being your authentic self, which fanned the flames of the gay Elsa theory.

It's interesting that Jennifer Lee's comment to Huffington Post didn't deny that Elsa was a LGBT character in the upcoming sequel. It would have been easy for her to put the rumors to rest, but she purposefully chose to remain ambiguous. This may simply be to help conversation continue around the sequel for the year and change until it finally arrives in theaters.

The call for inclusion has been a major conversation revolving around the entertainment world. Critics are crying out for more representation in the media in regards to race, gender, and sexual orientation. Director J.J. Abrams seems to think this important as well, ensuring fans that queer characters will pop up in the Star Wars franchise. And since he's directing Episode IX, maybe all the Poe/Finn shippers will finally get their wish.
