The Rock Shares Exciting Jumanji 2 News, Kevin Hart Should Be Nervous

Nobody was quite ready for the runaway success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, but based on the box office returns it appears that there are a lot of people who might want to hear what Dwayne Johnson has to say about a potential follow-up. The Rock took to Instagram to thank the fans of Welcome to the Jungle for making it the biggest domestic movie ever for Sony, and after doing so, he let those same fans know that work has already begun on a direct sequel, which is likely good news for the entire cast, except possibly one of them. Kevin Hart could be in trouble. As Johnson explained...

As producer of Jumanji, we are working on the sequel right now and speaking of giving the audience what they want, I'm going to go ahead and kill Kevin Hart's character off for good and everybody will be happy.

As one might expect, Johnson is having some fun at the expense of Hart, who he is now looking to co-star with for the third time. Although, if the avatars of the next Jumanji have the same weaknesses as they did this time around, Kevin Hart's character better hope there isn't too much cake around, or he could end up dead after all.

This isn't the first we've heard that a Jumanji sequel was likely, but is confirmation that it is being actively worked on. The word was Sony was eyeing a 2019 holiday season release, which would put the new Jumanji up against Star Wars: Episode IX, something that seems crazy, until you realize that Welcome to the Jungle was able to hold its own against Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It's all the more impressive that Sony was able to see their biggest movie alongside such competition. It's clear that even Dwayne Johnson wasn't expecting it to do as well. The question then becomes what form a new Jumanji would take. The game was seemingly destroyed at the end of the recent film, although, clearly the game has some kind of a mind of its own. It's also never been stated that the version of the board game unearthed by Alan Parrish, that became the game cartridge in Welcome to the Jungle, was the only copy of the game. We don't know where it originally came from, so who knows what the history of it truly is.

How Disney Is Incorporating Black Panther Into The Parks

Black Panther has become one of Marvel's biggest movies and it's happened nearly overnight. With that sort of success, you want to strike while the iron is hot, so you can be sure Disney will be looking to translate big screen success into theme park attendance. While we shouldn't go expecting construction on a Black Panther ride at Disneyland to start immediately, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently hinted that such a thing could very well happen down the road. Until then, we have the Black Panther character meet-up to enjoy and the expectation of a lot more Black Panther merchandise. Regarding that theme park attraction, though, Bob Iger recently hinted that a Black Panther ride is very much on the table, saying...

No. We haven't had a chance to build a ride, though I'm sure there are people who are working on it

Bob Iger also confirmed during the investor conference call at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference that more Marvel material was on the way to Disney Parks in California, Europe, and Asia, though no specifics were given. It's long been rumored that a new land dedicated to Marvel was being planned for Disney's California Adventure, the park across the plaza from Disneyland. With the first Marvel ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission - Breakout now constructed on the edge of where that land is expected, it seems likely, though it has never been confirmed by Disney Parks. It's a safe bet that if Disney's Imagineers weren't considering a Black Panther attraction for that space before, they certainly are now.

Before we get the Wakandan Vibranium train roller coaster, one place we can expect to see to more Black Panther in Disney parks is inside the gift shops. Bob Iger says that when Disney realized watching an early cut of Black Panther that the movie was going to be something special, it reached out to its retail partners to amp up the merchandising arm of the promotion. If Disney did that with its partnerships, you can be sure it also did the same thing internally. People are going to want shirts and hats and toys to celebrate the character. Iger fully expects Black Panther to be Disney's 12th billion dollar franchise. It's very nearly done that at the box office already, and when merchandising numbers are included it's very likely already there.

This is especially true because Black Panther is currently a character you can meet and get a photo with at Disney's California Adventure. Lines were nearly three hours long on the character's first day in the park and Bob Iger said on the conference call that lines are still regularly over an hour long. It takes longer to get a picture with Black Panther than it does to get on most rides.

Black Panther is something people like, and Disney Parks are all about bringing the properties people love to life. Expect to see more of Black Panther in Disney theme parks over the next several years.

Justice Leagues Ray Fisher Wishes His Characters Backstory Was More Fully Represented

It's no secret that superhero movies are everywhere, as the genre has proven to be massively popular and profitable over the past few years. While all eyes are on what Marvel brought to the table with The Russo Brothers' record breaking Avengers: Endgame, there's also some competition coming from the DC Extended Universe.

The DCEU has had some serious peaks and valleys since its inception, although things seem to be on the upswing with the release of Aquaman and Shazam! But it wasn't long ago when it seemed that all was lost, after the disappointing performance of Batman v Superman and Justice League. The latter introduced Ray Fisher's Cyborg to audiences, but the actor recently spoke to an aspect of the character's backstory that he wishes wasn't left out. As Fisher tells it:

Something which is something we didnt get to see fully represented in the film, is the loss of Victors mother. And how that sort of drives a wedge between them as well. Because not only has he lost his body, hes lost his mother, hes lost his ability to play football. He sees himself as a monster. And most of this is due to Silas.

Cyborg's future in the DC live-action universe is currently unclear, but comic book fans will no doubt agree with Ray Fisher's assessment regarding his character's treatment in Justice League. Because there was basically no mention of his mother Elinore Stone throughout the course of Zack Snyder's blockbuster.

Ray Fisher's comments come from his recent appearance at Wizard World Comic Con (via Reddit), and address Cyborg's typical comic book origin. Justice League caught up with Cyborg after his powers had already been granted, with the experiment his father Silas did on Victor only briefly mentioned. What's more, his mother Elinore was left out of the story, a decision that Fisher seems to take some umbrage with.

In the comics, the accident that causes Victor Stone to be transformed into Cyborg is also one that took his mother's life. So on top of Cyborg resenting his father Silas for taking his humanity away, their relationship is further fractured by the anger and guilt associated with Elinore's death. This backstory would help explain the sense of loneliness and bitterness that Cyborg was feeling in Justice League, and why he might have refused to join the team when first recruited by Diana Prince.

Ahead of Justice League's release, it was believed that each of the members of the team would be given their own solo flick down the line. This included a Cyborg movie, although it looks like Warner Bros. may have abandoned these plans. It's unclear if Ray Fisher will ever reprise his DC role, as the shared universe has pivoted away from serialized storytelling and onto capsulated, director-driven projects.

Shazam! is still in theaters now, and the next DC release will be Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7th, 2020. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
